Worldskills Portugal

Worldskills, managed in Portugal by IEFP, is the Championship of Professions aimed at young people between 17 and 25 years old, who have completed or are attending a qualification course and aim to demonstrate the individual level of skills, rigor and mastery of techniques and tools for the exercise of each profession in the competition. GRINGO – Uncomfortable Creativity was responsible for creating the mascot that would represent Portugal in all national and international competitions.

The Rationale

KNOW-HOW + SKILL + SAVOIR-FAIRE

To think about this mascot, we looked at Portugal. At its symbols. At what could be recognized both at home and abroad, as something that would show the origin of those who will be the best in their professions. And, after looking, we thought about how we could transform them. Make them more human like the project, more true like the work. We thought that we needed to show work.

To demonstrate that “Doing” is important for this project. And for that, only one thing was missing: rolling up our sleeves.

Our Approach

The Percebes / The Understands

The percebes (goose barnacle) is a typical mollusk of the Portuguese coast and a symbol associated with the sea, coming from its flavor as well as the practice of harvesting the mollusk. Due to its unique character, it is a mascot that allows for the integration of the brand’s standards and the creation of interesting compositions from a visual point of view. And what’s more, it joins the know-how, of its rolled-up sleeves, with understanding. After all, for those who don’t speak Portuguese, a good percebes, is an “Understands”.
