GRINGO - UNCOMFORTABLE CREATIVITY

Branding Agency in Portugal:
Strategy, Naming and Visual Identity

LS Hotel Group branding by GRINGO, branding agency in Portugal.

GRINGO is a branding agency in Portugal, with a team in Lisbon and Coimbra. We create brands from scratch and reposition existing ones: brand strategy, naming, visual identity and packaging. We have worked with the European project ECHoS, LS Hotel Group, Bouba, Nour and IMPIC, and our work has won 7 trophies at the Lusophone Creativity Awards. A brand that bothers nobody convinces nobody.

What does a branding agency do, and when do you need one?

A branding agency defines who a brand is, what it is called, how it speaks and how it looks. You need one when you are launching a company or product, when your name or image no longer fit the business, or when your brand blends in with everyone else in the category. GRINGO works with marketing directors, brand managers and leadership teams. A brand that takes up space without bothering the competition is just surviving.

What branding services does GRINGO offer?

Brand audit and diagnosis

GRINGO analyses the market, your competitors and your current brand before designing anything, and finds the gaps your competitors exploit. Uncomfortable truths first, logo second.

Brand strategy and positioning

GRINGO defines your purpose, positioning, brand persona and communication plan, including brand architecture when there are several brands or products. It all starts with our methodology, Discomfortology.

Brand naming

GRINGO creates names with a strong sound and commercial viability, and checks domain availability. We work alongside specialised intellectual property partners, who validate the legal viability of the name. A good name fits in the mouth and in the registry.

Verbal identity and copywriting

GRINGO defines your tone of voice and key messages, so your communication sounds like someone, not everyone.

Visual identity and logo design

GRINGO turns your positioning into a visual system: logo, colours, typography and applications, with brand guidelines to keep every touchpoint consistent.

Packaging and label design

When the brand is a product, the identity reaches the pack. See our packaging design agency.

How does a branding project work at GRINGO?

In four phases. We don’t work in the dark: each path solves your problem from a different angle.

  1. Analysis and diagnosis: the market, your competitors and the gaps your brand must fill.
  2. Brand strategy: strategic framework, positioning and brand persona.
  3. Creative development: up to 3 moodboards and 3 distinct visual identity routes.
  4. Production and launch: the brand leaves ready for the real market, with voice and body.

Which brands has GRINGO created?

Bouba: food retail and FMCG

GRINGO created Bouba from scratch, from name to packaging, for ethnic food products in national and international markets. The name has a simple sound and the packaging uses strong colour contrast to stand out on the shelf.

LS Hotel Group: luxury tourism

For LS Hotel Group, a group of 4 and 5-star hotels, GRINGO designed the strategy and identity, with a monolithic brand architecture and the verbal concept “A place of contemplation”, built for future expansion.

Nour: supplements and wellness

For a doctor launching a premium line of natural supplements, GRINGO created Nour: the name (from “nourish”), the positioning, the visual identity and the labels. The symbol is an N shaped like a wave, and the signature “Nature itself” runs through the packaging. A name that doesn’t depend on who created it.

IMPIC: public sector

GRINGO created the brand for IMPIC, built on the European eForms. The identity unifies portals such as impic.pt and base.gov.pt and won a Bronze at the Lusophone Creativity Awards.

ECHoS - Cancer Mission Hubs: health and international scale

ECHoS is a €6.1 million European project, coordinated by AICIB, that brings together 58 organisations from 28 countries. GRINGO created the brand and the signature “Breaking Through Cancer”.

More brands: Hairgummies, HNSC, Portugal Clinical Studies (health); Sweet Diva (FMCG); Happy Bond, 360go (services); Carwin, Export.i9, Qloop Architects (mobility and architecture).

Why work with a branding agency in Portugal?

GRINGO was founded in 2018 and works in Portuguese and English, from Lisbon and Coimbra, with local clients and with international brands remotely. Portugal’s mainland runs on the same clock as the UK, so meetings and approvals fit a European workday. Clients rate us 4.8 out of 5 across 5 verified reviews on Clutch. Same discomfort, better weather.

Branding or rebranding: what’s the difference?

Branding creates or defines a brand. Rebranding repositions a brand that already exists and has lost relevance. If your brand has a history and needs a new direction, see our rebranding agency. Changing the logo does not fix a positioning problem.

Branding FAQ

What is the difference between branding and visual identity?

Visual identity is the part you see: logo, colours, typography. Branding also includes strategy, positioning, name and voice. GRINGO does both, and starts with the strategy.

Do you work with international clients remotely?

Yes. GRINGO works in English and Portuguese and runs projects with international brands through video calls and shared tools.

Does GRINGO handle trademark registration?

GRINGO creates the name and checks domain availability. We work alongside specialised intellectual property partners, who validate the legal viability of the name and handle the registration.

How do I choose a branding agency?

Ask for cases with context and results, check that the agency asks hard questions before proposing, and confirm what you receive at the end. If an agency approves everything on the first try, be suspicious.

Is your brand bothering the competition yet?

Tell us where you are and where you want to be. If you only want someone to draw a logo without asking questions, we are the wrong choice. If you want a brand that gets noticed, let’s talk.
